SAN JOSE, Calif.-Jan. 12, 2006-BEA Systems, Inc. (NASDAQ: BEAS), a world leader in enterprise infrastructure software, today announced that News Optimus Ltd. has standardized on BEA Weblogic PlatformT 8.1 to deliver a single customer view and the management of telecommunications and other services.

12 January 2006

This leading UK provider of telephony services to the residential market — a wholly owned subsidiary of News International Ltd — is deploying BEA WebLogic Platform 8.1, including BEA WebLogic Server®, BEA WebLogic Portal™, and BEA WebLogic Workshop™ to provide major consumer brand clients with a single, complete view of their customers’ telephony and other services.

The new platform is designed to help News Optimus’ clients to manage lucrative and rewarding customer relationships throughout the customer lifecycle, helping to maximize their assets and extend their brands while helping to ensure the highest quality service delivery possible. News Optimus’ clients can use the portal to launch a compelling range of own-branded services to their customers, supporting the provisioning of services, accurate and timely billing, and management of effective and rewarding customer care.

“BEA WebLogic Platform can provide News Optimus with the opportunity to deliver our services to major scale clients across Web/mobile media, based on a portal framework,” said David Saidman, managing director, News Optimus. “Furthermore BEA Systems compliments our enterprise technology platform, helping to give us the flexibility, operational performance and cost benefits to grow our business substantially within communications and beyond. Our Service Delivery Platform which includes the Convergys Geneva Rating and Billing engine can offer clients a high quality, bespoke solution on a standardized enterprise platform designed with low entry costs and highly competitive ongoing service prices.”

News Optimus’ Head of Technology, Scott Wall commented, “BEA WebLogic Platform is designed to help News Optimus accelerate the development and customization of our customer services portal, rolling out changes with reduced complexity and effort. The enterprise integration capabilities of BEA Weblogic Platform are also designed to ensure the portal leverages current and future News Optimus application investments, and integration with our clients’ systems. It can help allow us to efficiently and effectively deliver our products and services not only across our enterprise but also to our clients, and to our clients’ customers. In addition, the BEA WebLogic Platform is designed to help us reduce both total cost of ownership (TCO) and our time to market with new products and services.”

BEA is a preeminent application infrastructure provider to telecommunications service providers, with significant penetration in the billing, provisioning, customer care, and inventory management market. Together, BEA WebLogic Portal and BEA WebLogic Server are designed to help News Optimus to simplify the production and management of the portal, using a shared services environment.
